Show Kindness and Thanks: Printable Notes from Kids

Image
There's a lot going on in our state and world (with more to come). Our teachers and leaders need kindness and thankfulness during this time. Even if we don't agree on everything with some leaders, they still play a role in protecting our kids. And obviously our teachers and school administration and staff need support and love right now (and always). Their job is so hard and they are so amazing. So, let's show everyone the power of kindness. Let's spread LOVE. We think it would mean a lot to everyone. Handwritten notes from kids. Simply follow this link , print it out and hand over to your kids! Fill one out for yourself, too. Or, write a note on the back. Have your kids take the notes to school and mail any others to leaders. Let's be the good we wish to see. And show some love for others! Mask Optional Environment Harmful for Your Child?

Image
During the mask mandates in schools, students who were medically advised to not wear a mask were provided an exemption or accommodation process . This would have been the case in all school districts. And it should have been! We know that there are children who need accommodations in many scenarios. The same is true now, though, as masks become optional.  If your child has a medical condition or disability that renders as mask-optional environment harmful or medically inadvisable, there should be a process provided for your child to receive appropriate accommodations.  We are trying to help in our group on Facebook by bringing together these families to spread awareness and work towards a solution. We know there are many, many impacted by the changes to come. The same respect given to those needing exemptions to wearing masks needs to be given to those who need a safe masked environment (beyond just the student wearing a mask themselves).  Please reach out if you impacted by this.   On February 17th, the NC General Assembly passed a bill --  Senate Bill 173 'Free the Smiles' Act  -- that upon skimming or seeing media coverage seems logical BUT it is, in reality, dangerous and irresponsible.  The NC Alliance for School Equity and Safety believes masks should come off and/or be optional when the time is right. When our public health experts agree. When it is safe and equitable for all students. Not when government decides to play politics with those in schools. But what this 'Free the Smiles' Act really says is irresponsible and reckless. And the public must be informed and so they can reach out to their  State Representatives  and the  Governor . Ask Governor Cooper to veto this bill and tell your representatives to not support overriding a veto.  SB 173, if it becomes a law, should be a concern to  everyone . Anyone who has concern for others or their children. SB 173 states that children on school property can not wear a mask if opted out by the
